Making pour over coffee

Making pour over coffee involves a few steps, but with some practice, you can easily master the technique. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make pour over coffee:

Ingredients and tools:

  • Freshly roasted coffee beans
  • Filter paper
  • Pour over cone (such as Hario V60 or Kalita Wave)
  • Kettle
  • Digital scale
  • Coffee grinder
  • Timer
  • Mug or carafe

Steps:

  1. Boil water: Boil water and let it cool for 1-2 minutes. The ideal temperature for pour over coffee is around 195°F to 205°F (90°C to 96°C).

  2. Grind the coffee beans: Grind the coffee beans to a medium-fine grind size. You should use about 15-20 grams of coffee for every 250 ml of water.

  3. Rinse the filter: Place the filter paper in the pour over cone and rinse it with hot water. This will remove any paper taste and preheat the cone.

  4. Add the coffee: Place the pour over cone on top of your mug or carafe. Add the ground coffee to the cone and level it out.

  5. Bloom the coffee: Pour hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee) over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds. This will release any gases trapped in the coffee.

  6. Pour the remaining water: Start pouring the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, slowly and steadily. Try to keep the water level in the cone consistent. Pour until you reach the desired weight of water or the desired volume of coffee.

  7. Wait for the coffee to drip: Wait for the coffee to drip through the filter into your mug or carafe. This should take about 2-4 minutes.

  8. Enjoy: Once the coffee has finished dripping, remove the cone and enjoy your delicious pour over coffee!

Remember, practice makes perfect. Experiment with different coffee beans, grind sizes, and pouring techniques to find the perfect pour over coffee for your taste.
